Fourth of July Cookout
Friday, July 4th, turned out to be a lovely day with light and variable winds and a hot sun. The Deaf Culture Center (DCC) hosted a July 4th cookout at Pah! Highland Plaza in the shade of the patio next to the car park. More than 45 people came! They were mostly residents with some visitors. There were Deaf and non-Deaf and folk of all ages. The cookout started at 5 pm with DCC Volunteers assisting with the setup and food preparation. The cook was James Wooden Legs. This girl (me) from Minnesota was very surprised and delighted that JW made Bratwurst fajitas that he called, “Brat Fajitas”. He also cooked hot dogs and hamburgers, but I stuck with the Brat!
After feasting and sign chatting for a couple of hours, the DCC Volunteers steered us through the parking lot to the empty lot next to the Pah! Car Park. They entertained us for a little over an hour with a lovely, small-sized fireworks show! During the fireworks, James, as usual, had some fun at kidding with the folks with a big, black fake spider. I was going to chase him, but, wow! He moves fast!
I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable 4th of July weekend. Thank you, DCC@ And maybe next year more of the Deaf Community will come eat and play with us.
